This four-part
series uses colorful and captivating artwork to introduce students
to the important subject of mythology. The CD-ROM version of our
Mythology series expands on the program's video format to create
an exciting new interactive multimedia title. The program includes
the following four units:
- What are
Myths? This introduction to the subject of mythology provides
a clear definition of myths and a look at their most common elements.
It discusses the various functions myths perform in society, and
features examples of myths from various cultures, both ancient
and modern.
- The Greek
Myths: Character and Content This unit provides a comprehensive
examination of the major figures that make up the Greek mythological
world. It also looks at some central issues in Greek mythology,
such as the creation of the world from chaos, the war between
the Titans and the gods, the Ages of Man, and the creation of
Pandora.
- The Greek
Myths: Sources and Styles This beautiful program examines
the sources of Greek mythology, the superb literary quality of
myths, the cultural climate that allowed such literary interpretations,
and the impact of Greek myths on Western culture. It shows that
Greek mythology was the creation of great and sophisticated poets
like Homer, Hesiod, and Pindar.
- The Roman
Gods and Goddesses Ancient Rome had its own distinct divinities
and objects of worship. The private cult focused its attention
on the Numina, while the public cult centered on high gods such
as Jupiter, Ares, Quirinus, and Janus. This captivating unit provides
a strong introduction to the gods, goddesses, and spiritual powers
of early Rome. The CD-ROM Mythology program contains many interactive
features that will greatly help make the subject of mythology
come alive. The program includes a glossary of important terms,
an encyclopedia of related subject areas, and a compendium of
key myths. In addition, the CD-ROM features approximately fifty
ancillary activities, including anagrams, puzzles, educational
games, and classroom projects. On the school version, each of
the program's four sections includes a matching exercise, a true
and false quiz, and a 40-question multiple choice test, with a
unique scoring system that enables teachers to view, save, print,
edit, and delete student test results. Another function on the
school edition allows teaching material to be modified and printed
to create worksheets, assignments, and quizzes.
