 Anatomy of a Shark


Topic Menu
The Topic Menu determines the content of the actiivities. The Marine Life Learning System is divided into five (5) topics which represent the major anatomical systems of a typical shark. Each of the topics can be studied in a variety of ways. To select a topic, use the mouse to open the topics menu and drag the pointer to the desired selection.
External View The external view shows the fins and other external features common to most sharks. A close-up view of the denticles is also provided.
Skeleton The view of the skeleton of the shark gives detailed information on how the skeleton supports the shark's body. The skeleton primarily consists of the braincase, the vertebral column and related structures, the pelvic and pectoral bones.
Circulatory System The structures found in the circulatory system are represented in a cut-away view of the shark's visceral area. This view is used to present information about how the shark's heart, arteries and veins work together to supply the cells of the shark's body.
Nervous System The nervous system controls the shark's behavior. The nervous systems consists of a simple brain, spinal column and a network of nerves.
Urogenital System The urogenital system shows the male and female urogenital structures and provides detailed information on the shark's reproductive system.
