Chapter 3.1: Learning about Integers
 
The set of whole numbers consists of 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on. On a number line each whole number can be matched with another number that is the same distance from 0 but on the opposite side of 0. Number such as 4 and -4 that are the same distance from 0, are called opposites. Zero is its own opposite. Integers consist of whole numbers and their opposites. On the number line, positive integers are to the right of 0, and negative integers are to the left of 0.
