The Identity Properties

If zero is added to a number the sum is the same as the number. Zero is called the additive identity.

 
 If a number is multiplied by one, the product is equivalent to the number.

The commutative property is a special rule that is frequently used in algebra. It states that for addition and multiplication these relationships will always be true:
