AMC’s
JPEG2000 image compression technology is based on wavelet
compression algorithms. Wavelets are mathematical functions
that cut up data into different frequency components and then
study each component with a resolution matched to its scale.
The current JPEG image compression standard is based on the
Discrete Cosine Transformation (DCT).
Blocking
artifacts are the most visible type of distortion introduced
by very low bit rate DCT image coding schemes such as JPEG.
With the continual expansion of multimedia and internet applications,
image compression requires higher performance as well as new
features. The new compression standard provides low bit rate
operations with rate-distortion and subjective image quality
performance superior to JPEG standard.
